This period was founded on the "Beau Idéal': the idealisation of beauty, based on the purity and grandeur of the ancient Greeks and Romans. The bed's frame is embellished with finely, hand-carved 'egg and dart' work, French beading, and ribboning, all in the neoclassical style. The bed's columns are finished with stylized Fleure-de-lys finials of the period. The proportions and styling of the bed convey a quiet confidence.
