Large 19th Century Decorative Pair Of Alabaster Marble Jug...
An exceptional pair of elegantly tall, 19th Century, French Decorative pitchers on plinths, hand carved in a beautifully veined Alabaster marble. The Neo Classical style pieces, each feature a hippocampus, the winged sea horse of Greek mythology (symbols of power, hope and strength) whose long, flowing tails are used to create the pitcher''s handle forms. The jug spouts are adorned with voluptuous acanthus leaves atop slim necklines on bodies featuring relief carvings of birds drinking from a fountain. The pieces have an arresting beauty and are highly unique.
