A stunning Italian bed, circa early 1940's, inspired by the Milanese designer, Giovanni Gariboldi. The bed features an Art Deco scalloped headboard with built in, curvaceous bedside tables, finished in a striking blond, burr elm, wood veneer with the added detailing of slim inlaid brass beading along the lines of the headboard, to elegantly accentuate its contours, making for an impressive piece. The bed's hand carved motifs of Art Deco styled foliage for the console type legs of the bedside tables are finished in an ecru white which are further highlighted with touches of gilded work. The proportions of the bed lean towards the modernity of the early 40's while the design still retains the naturalistic detailing of the Art Deco period just before it. The bed is part of an impressive bedroom suite which includes a dressing table with wardrobe and can be bought individually or as part of the complete set. The headboard has been newly upholstered in a velvet from the French fabric house of Tassinari & Chatel.
