A French cast iron bistro table from the turn of the 20th century with lots of character and charm. The beautifully cast iron pedestal, featuring attention to detailing in its moulding, still has a degree of the original old paintwork which is now a time-aged, tobacco colour merging with the naturally aged ironwork creating an ambient, textured palette. The three arms of the base are topped with the original round white marble that still has the generous brass moulded trim. Looking at it, one can imagine Parisians with Gittanes, drinking wine, on the cafe lined streets of Montmartre. An overall find. The base is marked by the maker Castagne & J.Charlionais-Toulouse BSGDG. The table has a 31 inch diameter and would ideal to use indoors, or outside in the garden or patio. Circa 1900, the piece has aged with its history but has become quite painterly for it.
