French Early 20th Century Louis XV Style Large Gilt wood Headboard
One of a kind, now sold
£5,040.00 VAT included
A large headboard from France, circa first half of 20th century with wonderfully ebullient carving in the Louis XV style featuring stylised acanthus leaves and small, detail-carved flowers, with an Art Deco styled rocaille shell at the apex.
The gilded finish, original to the piece, has nicely aged to reveal some of the red gesso layer beneath, adding texture and overall tonal depth and charm. The celadon green, silk fabric is as seen, and was found on the headboard as sourced.
The large size of this headboard is a boon as it can accommodate various large mattress sizes. It is also rarer to find carving with such detail that continues all over the full frame, down to the sides, to the foot.
